Lindsey Named Head Coach of Knights Dance Team

BUENA VISTA, Va. — Southern Virginia University Director of Athletics Deidra Dryden today announced Erica Lindsey as the next head coach of the athletic department dance team.

"We are excited to welcome Erica to our athletics program," said Dryden. "She has great experience and expertise to build our dance program."

Lindsey brings professional experience to Southern Virginia as a dance instructor and judge. For the past six years, she taught a variety of choreography styles at the Creative Arts Academy in Bountiful, Utah. In 2017, she served as a judge at the Utah State Dance Competition.

"Growing up, my mom owned a successful dance studio in Utah," explained Lindsey. "I saw first-hand how dance impacted hundreds of students' lives for the better."

In addition to instructing and judging various competitions, Lindsey also danced professionally as a member of the Utah Jazz and Orem Owlz dance teams during the 2015-16 season. Prior to joining the Jazz, Lindsey helped win a 2015 USHSAA Drill Team State Championship for Bountiful High School.

"Dance taught me the value of hard work, as well as how to make lasting friendships and gain confidence," said Lindsey. "I want to provide these same benefits to our dancers here at Southern Virginia University. I am excited to build this program and assist the dancers in reaching their potential and giving back to the community."

"The upcoming season is going to be a time of change, excitement, and growth," said Lindsey. "I cannot wait to grow this dance program further and begin this exciting journey with these talented artists."

Lindsey graduated from Utah Valley University with a bachelor of science in nursing.
