Critchfield Named to CoSIDA Baseball Academic All-District Team

BUENA VISTA, Va. — Southern Virginia University senior first baseman Cole Critchfield was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 5 First Team, becoming the program's first to earn the prestigious award. The announcement was made by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) Thursday. 

Critchfield excelled in the classroom as a computer science major while also elevating the University's athletics brand by generating eye-catching visual graphics for social media and was a four-time Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) All-Academic recipient.

The Star Valley, Wyoming, product finished his senior season leading the team in hits (21), doubles (six), and batting average (.389). Critchfield in the 2018-19 season tied a career-high in hits and RBIs with four each against Eastern Mennonite. In his second season, Critchfield was named All-CAC First Team and VaSID All-State Second Team after leading the team in hits (49), RBIs (34) and batting average (.353). He ended his freshman season leading the team and finished fourth in the CAC with a .390 batting average. He played in 122 career games for the Knights, producing 171 hits, 104 RBIs, 34 doubles, nine homers, and a stellar .360 batting average, hitting over .320 in all four seasons while drawing 48 walks and stole 29 bases.

The 2020 Academic All-District® Baseball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes baseball and softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and the NAIA. Honorees selected first-team Academic All-District® will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. Academic All-America® honorees will be announced from June 8-11.
