Knights Drop First Game of Series Against Sea Gulls

SALISBURY, Md. — The Southern Virginia University baseball team started their three-game series against No. 10 Salisbury University this weekend, falling 6-3 in the first game after several weather delays ended the Capital Atheltic Conference matchup in five-innings.

Bridger Taylor put the Knights (14-13, 5-10) ahead 2-0 with his sixth home run of the season in the top of the first inning with a two-run shot.

The Sea Gulls (30-6, 17-2) scored one run the following inning to trail 2-1.

In the top of the fourth inning, Jordan Nase singled up the middle scoring Jonny Soto giving the Knights a 3-1 lead.

In the next two innings, the Sea Gulls managed to put five runs on the Knights with a four-run rally coming in the bottom of the fifth to take a 6-3 lead.

Play stopped due to weather creating a two-hour delay. After the delay, the game was called after the fifth inning, handing the Knights the 6-3 loss.

Nase led Southern Virginia accounting two of the Knights' seven hits. Taylor, Soto, Cole Critchfield, Hunter Blunt, and Brady Lamb collected a hit.

Austin Forsyth started on the rubber for the Knights throwing 4.1 innings allowing five runs. Marshall Davis is dealt the loss, his first of the season.

The Knights wrap up the series tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m.
