HARRISONBURG, Va. — The Southern Virginia University baseball team defeated Eastern Mennonite in a non-conference matchup Tuesday afternoon, earning a 10-6 victory.
The Knights (13-9) split the season with the Royals (12-16-1) after losing the first meeting 16-12 on Feb. 27.
Southern Virginia's offense set the pace recording a season-high 20 hits from seven different players while also producing runs in seven of the nine innings.
Johnny Soto singled to right field in the second that brought home Ryan Morin increasing the Knights' lead to 2-0.
After a Royal solo home run, Southern Virginia added a run in both the third and fourth innings making the score 4-1.
The Royals rallied back to tie the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the fourth.
With the game knotted at four, Taylor added to his strong day with a two-run single in the top of the sixth and an RBI single in the seventh, giving the Knights the 7-4 advantage.
In the final inning, Critchfield hit a solo homer recording his second of the season. Morin added two more runs on a two-run RBI single to seal the 10-6 win.
Taylor led the Knights with four RBI's giving him 29 on the season to lead the team. Morin also added three RBI's on the day while Critchfield went 4-6 and Soto 5-6, each registered one.
Southern Virginia returns home to host No. 1 Christopher Newport University starting Friday, April 12 at 3:00 p.m.
