YORK, Pa. — The Southern Virginia University baseball ended the week after dropping their doubleheader with the York College (Pa.) Spartans today, falling 13-8 in the first game and 17-1 in the second.
In game one, the Spartans (6-1, 3-0) struck first taking a 1-0 lead after the first inning.
Once again, the Spartans answered to take the lead scoring three in the bottom of the sixth with the score now 5-3.
The Knights followed up with their best inning of the game scoring three runs with a Jordan Nase RBI single and Critchfield recording a two-run RBI double to capture the lead 6-5.
After one more inning of back-and-forth play, Brady Lamb hit a solo shot tying the game at 7-7.
A strong inning in the eighth put the Knights away when the Spartans scored six runs. The Knights scored one more run from Lamb on an RBI single but fell short in the final inning losing 13-8.
In game two, the Spartans led wire to wire after claiming an 8-0 lead after the first two innings.
The Knights only run of the game came in the top of the seventh from a Mitch Tyse solo homer.
The Spartans added nine more runs to put away the Knights 17-1 and sweep the series 3-0.
Southern Virginia continues their CAC road trip as they face the University of Mary Washington Friday, Mar. 22 at 3:30 p.m.
