Knights Overtake Generals Win 6-3

LEXINGTON, Va. — The Southern Virginia University baseball team knocked off Washington and Lee Thursday afternoon in a crosstown matchup, earning a 6-3 victory.

The Generals (6-6) took the lead after a Knights' (5-2) throwing error contributed to the first run of the game.

In the top of the second, the Knights capitalized on a passed ball that allowed Canon Anderson to score to tie the game 1-1. Several batters later, Jonny Soto singled into right field scoring Ryan Morin handing the Knights their first lead of the game 2-1. Jordan Nase added one more in the inning, after grounding out to the pitcher and bringing home Mitch Tyse.

Washington and Lee scored one run to chip at the Knights lead to bringing the game to within a run 3-2.

Southern Virginia's fourth inning added some insurance scoring three runs on another Nase RBI, a Caleb Layden RBI double and a Cole Critchfield sacrifice fly now leading 6-2.

The Generals tacked on one run in the final inning making the final score 6-3.

Layden and Anderson led the Knights with three hits each. Nase led with a game-high two RBI's. Critchfield and Anderson each recorded a stolen base.

Freshman Marshall Davis picked up his first win at Southern Virginia coming in relief of Bryndon Buckley.

The Knights will face Alfred State Friday, Mar. 8 at 3:30 p.m. at Perry McCluer High School.
