BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Southern Virginia University baseball team fell victim to the long ball on Thursday afternoon, suffering a 12-6 loss to Lynchburg College.
After three innings of scoreless baseball, the Hornets (8-3) started finding their groove at the plate in the later innings, hitting four homers and four doubles off the Knights' (6-7) pitching. The Knights hit their stride late in the game as well with 10 players tallying at least one hit, but it was not enough to overcome the 6-0 hole they found themselves in in the sixth frame.
Garrison Magee substituted in at catcher in the eighth inning to make his first plate appearance of the season and ended up hitting a home run to left field.
Jonathan Soto started on the mound for the Knights, giving up five runs with three strikeouts in four and one-third innings.
The Knights are back in action on Friday as they take on nonconference opponent SUNY-Canton at Parry McCluer High School. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
