Baseball Completes Sweep of Penn St.-Mont Alto

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Southern Virginia University baseball game completed a three-game sweep of non-conference opponent Penn St.-Mont Alto Saturday, winning 7-5, and 11-2 in a pair of seven-inning games.

In Saturday's first game the Lions (0-6) grabbed a three-run lead heading into the bottom of the second. The Knights (4-6) answered with a pair of runs coming as Kyle Hussein singled to right field, scoring Alex Burgos. Later in the inning Hussein stole home on a double steal, scoring the second run.

Penn St.-Mont Alto snagged two more runs in the third, but Southern Virginia responded with three runs in the fourth and two in the fifth to secure a 7-5 victory.

In the fourth, Ryan Saunders recorded two RBIs on one of his two doubles of the day. Josh Hilburn later scored. In the next inning, Jordan Keefer hit a two-run homer to left field.

The second game proved to be more decisive for the Knights, scoring at least one run in every inning except the third, and held an 11-0 lead heading into the final inning.

Ryan Morin hit the team's first triple of the year in the win, and recorded three RBIs. Cole Critchfield and Justin King each had doubles with one and two RBIs, respectively. 

The Knights head to Roanoke College for a Wednesday afternoon game in Salem, Virginia. Game time is 4 p.m.
