LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Southern Virginia University baseball team completed their series with Lynchburg College Wednesday afternoon, falling to the Hornets 10-3.
Lynchburg (3-2), which topped the Knights (1-6) 7-1 last Wednesday, scored their first run in the bottom of the first inning, added a pair in the third and then had a seven-run eighth inning.
Southern Virginia was able to get on the board in the seventh, but two runs in the ninth wasn't enough for the comeback.
First baseman Cole Critchfield scored two of the Knights' three runs, the first coming from a Jordan Keefer single to left field, and in the ninth inning scoring from an Alex Burgos single to center. Burgos later scored in the final inning on a throwing error by the third baseman.
The Knights open their home season on Friday as they host Penn St.-Mont Alto. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Rockbridge County High School, 143 Greenhouse Rd, Lexington, Virginia.
