The two squads last met on March 2 of last year at Mary Washington. In a tightly contested doubleheader, the teams split with Southern Virginia taking game one by a 4-2 score, and the Eagles picking up the victory in game two, 6-5, in 12 innings.
About the Knights
Southern Virginia is looking to snap a recent four-game skid as it hosts Mary Washington on Wednesday. The Knights' most recent defeat came in a twinbill with Marymount University which saw the Saints take victories in both games by respective scores of 13-12 and 5-3.
Freshman catcher Ryan Gabriel leads the Knights' hitting attack, posting a .316 batting average on the year to go along with 12 RBI and two home runs from the plate. Senior Mitch Mantle leads all Southern Virginia hitters with 14 RBI on the season. Knight pitchers are posting a 6.31 ERA and are holding opponents to a .321 batting average.
About the Eagles
After starting the season 9-2, Mary Washington has been in a slump, only winning two of their last 17 games. The Eagles will look to get back on track against Southern Virginia and will look for an ignited offense and solid defense to get the victory.
Sophomore outfielder James Sink leads all Eagle hitters with a .358 average on the year to go along with 15 RBI, going 39-109 from the plate this season. The pitching staff has a 4.84 ERA during its 2014 campaign while holding its opponents to a .300 batting average.
