About the Knights
Southern Virginia is coming off an 8-2 defeat against fellow NCAA Division III member Roanoke College last night. The Maroons took a quick 5-0 lead after four innings and would never look back as the Knights were only able to string together two runs on six hits for the evening.
Freshman catcher Ryan Gabriel leads Southern Virginia's offensive attack this season with a .324 average going 23-71 from the plate, including one homerun and 11 RBI. Junior shortstop CJ Andrus also contributes with a .311 average and 23 hits on the year.
About the Saints
This is the inaugural season for the Marymount University baseball program. Under first-year head coach Frank Leoni, the Saints are currently looking to snap a 15-game skid this Saturday. In its most recent defeat, Marymount dropped a tightly contested 15-14 battle with Wesley College at home.
The Saints are led by junior outfielder Bret Phillips, who is posting a .347 average with 33 hits, 22 RBI and two homeruns on the year.
