Southern Virginia University (5-13) vs. Christopher Newport University (12-10, 6-2 CAC)
The two squads last met nearly a month ago in Newport News, Va., that had Christopher Newport taking a tight 3-1 victory. The Captains jumped on top early grabbing two runs in the bottom of the first off Southern Virginia errors. The Knights would cut the deficit to one in the top of the seventh, but it wasn't enough as Christopher Newport relief pitchers downed the Southern Virginia in the last two innings to take the victory.
About the Knights
Southern Virginia is coming off a doubleheader split with Capital Athletic Conference opponent Wesley College. On a wind-gusted day, the Wolverines took the first game, 2-0 in 10 innings, but the Knights returned the favor with their own 1-0 shutout victory. Southern Virginia will look to get back to .500 against CAC opponents.
Junior shortstop leads the Knights' hitting attack with a .303 batting average on the year going 20-66 from the plate. Senior Mitch Mantle leads all Southern Virginia hitters with 14 RBI's on the season.
About the Captains
Christopher Newport is coming off an 8-0 victory over fellow CAC member the University of Mary Washington. The Captains are currently a ½ game behind Wesley College for second place in CAC standings.
Senior infielder Billy Steel leads the Captains' hitting attack having a .414 average with eight home runs and 25 RBI's on the season.
