About the Knights
The Knights are coming off a 14-0 loss to Washington College as they face their first Capital Athletic Conference foe, Christopher Newport. The Knights have only one win this season and are struggling offensively to get the bats rolling.
As a team the Knights have a .189 batting average and as a pitching staff a 7.55 earned run average. The Knights are looking to turn around and hit their way out of a losing streak against the Captains.
Senior Tyler King leads the Knights with a .333 batting average and a .400 on-base percentage. Junior C.J. Andrus leads the Knights with eight hits in 31 at-bats for a .258 batting average. Mitch Mantle leads the team with seven runs batted in and ties with Andrus with two stolen bases.
Southern Virginia will need to be aggressive at the plate and stay strong on defense to claim their second win of the season.
About the Captains
The Captains host Southern Virginia University after a 7-9 loss to ODAC member Eastern Mennonite University on Tuesday. The Captains had a close loss to fellow CAC foe St. Mary's and recently swept CAC opponent Marymount .
Senior Billy Steel leads the Captains with 26 hits in 58 at bats for a .448 batting average along with four homeruns and 14 runs batted in and is 3-4 on stolen bases. Junior Tommy Vitaletti trails behind with a .419 batting average on 18 hits and has nine runs batted in and is 2-2 on stolen bases.
The Captains' pitching staff is led by seniors Bryan Bierlein, Nick Santalucia and Jacob Vaughn, who have ERAs of 1.53, 2.96 and 1.59, respectively. The trio has a total of five wins this season.
