BUENA VISTA, Va.—Sophomore C.J. Andrus (Federal Way, Wash.) of the Southern Virginia University baseball team was named today to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

"C.J. [Andrus] is very deserving of this award," said fourth-year Head Coach Logan Mann. "He's had a great year on the diamond and has done an excellent job in the classroom."

The all-district teams are divided into eight districts and are separated by NCAA Divisions I, II, III and College Division—including NAIA, two-year and independent institutions. To be recognized, one must have at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average and serve as a key contributor to the team.

Andrus was selected as a representative of District One—comprised of colleges and universities from 16 different states ranging from Maine to North Carolina. He will be up for consideration to the Capital One Academic All-American Team to be announced in late May.

In addition to his stellar academic record, the second baseman has had a solid season for Southern Virginia on-the-field.

The middle infielder is currently hitting .312 with 17 runs scored, 10 RBIs and three stolen bases while ranking second on the squad in defensive assists (65) and third in fielding percentage (.972).

He has also been a key contributor to the team's 18-14 record and bid to the program's fourth consecutive USCAA Small College World Series in which the No. 6-seed Knights take on No. 3-seeded Cincinnati-Clermont on Mon., May 6 at 1:30 p.m.

Andrus, whose major is Biology, is baseball's second academic all-district member as Greg Larsen was named to the All-District Second Team in 2008.
