BUENA VISTA, Va.—The United States Collegiate Athletic Association today announced senior starting pitcher Ed Greenhalgh (Roy, Utah) as USCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week due to his performance in last Wednesday's 5-0 shutout at Ferrum College.
"Ed [Greenhalgh] has been our most consistent pitcher so far," said fourth-year Head Coach Logan Mann. "He threw one of the best outings of his career against Ferrum, and is very deserving of the recognition."
Two-time USCAA Academic All-American (2010-11, 2011-12) Greenhalgh earned his third straight winning decision, tossing 7.0 innings of shutout ball against Ferrum on Mar. 20, while allowing four hits and striking out eight batters—one short of his career-high nine-strikeout performance on Mar. 13, 2012, at Greensboro College.
"It's great to be honored as pitcher of the week for the first time in my career," said Greenhalgh. "This award is a good benchmark showing that I've improved on the mound throughout the season."
In 2013, the fourth-year left-handed hurler is leading the Southern Virginia pitching staff in ERA (2.76), wins (4), strikeouts (23) and innings pitched (29.1).
Greenhalgh currently ranks third on the program's all-time career list in strikeouts (72), fourth in wins (9) and lowest opponent batting average (.279) and fifth in appearances (28) and games started (16) on the mound.
