Johnson Named USCAA Player of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Southern Virginia University senior outfielder, Jake Johnson, has been named the USCAA Baseball Player of the Week. In six games during the week, Johnson went 10-for-18 in competition against Washington & Lee and Penn St. Greater Allegheny.

Hitting .555 in the games, Johnson added 13-RBI's 7-runs scored, and had 2-homeruns, a triple and a double. Johnson also pitched a complete game shutout against PSGA where he went 7-innings, and added 8-strikeouts, giving up only 3-hits. Johnson's efforts helped the Knights earn series wins against W&L and PSGA on the way to a 5-1 week.

Johnson is currently the team leader in batting average (.475), hits (29), RBI (22), homeruns (5), doubles (10) and tied for most triples with two. He also has a perfect pitching record with two wins and no losses. With Johnson leading the way, SVU has jumped to its best start in program history, at 13-3, currently sits #2 in the USCAA, and leads the USCAA in several categories.
