Winning Streak Ends For Knights In Loss To EMU

HARRISONBURG, Va. - A five game winning streak for the Southern Virginia University baseball team came to an end, as they surrendered four runs to Eastern Mennonite, and fell, 4-2. SVU scored first for the seventh consecutive game, but the early lead would not last, as EMU registered 3-runs in the third and fourth to take a lead that would not be surrendered.

Trager Hintze, Dale Brown and Boston Bushnell all had two hits, as the Knights outhit the Royals 11-9. The advantage with the bats was not enough though in only the second loss of the season for the Knights. Hintze's second inning single led off for the visitors, and the sophomore crossed home plate soon after, as Bushnell drove in the run off an EMU error later in the inning.

The Knights had runners on second and third, but the runs never materialized, as EMU got out of the jam. Britt Dalton only made it to the fourth inning as he gave up 6-hits and 3-runs, while striking out 2-EMU batters. Kody Parkinson came in to stop the bleeding after the 3-runs scored by the hosts.

Mitch Stevenson would help the Knights get to within two of the Royals, as a single in the top of the ninth eventually led to an Andrew Snider single driving in Stevenson. The Knights would have the bases loaded with an opportunity for a lead, but grounded out to end the game.

Dalton took the loss, and moved to 1-1 on the season. SVU now is at 8-2, and will look to rebound in the following week, as the team hosts Penn St. Beaver on Mar. 7. The double-header has a 12:00 start time.
