Baseball Scores 30-Runs In Double-Header Sweep Of Ferrum

FERRUM, Va. - The Southern Virginia University baseball team continued its hot streak to start the season, as the Knights exploded for 30-runs in 13-8 & 17-8 wins over Ferrum. Senior Jake Johnson led the way for the Knights, hitting 6-for-11, and recording 6-RBI's in the two wins.

Andrew Snider and Josh Linn also continued hot hitting for Southern Virginia, going 6-for-9 and 4-for-10 respectively, with 10-RBI's between the two players during the double-header. SVU also had 30-hits to go along with the 30-runs in the two routs.

In game one, SVU scored early, as Dale Brown scored after being driven in by Snider's double in the first inning. Two innings later the Knights had a 5-run lead. Johnson, Snider and Linn all hit homeruns, to drive in the four runs, and give the visitors a large lead. Ferrum was able to answer in the bottom of the fourth, recording four runs.

Darrell Brown was able to weather the storm for the visitors, and kept going at the hosts, eventually recording the win on 5-innings pitched with 4-strikeouts, 10-hits, and 5-earned runs. Ed Greenhalgh came in after the fifth, and allowed only three more runs, while the Knights were continuing their scoring ways. The hot hitting would continue in the fourth, with Southern Virginia scoring 5-runs to blow the game wide open.

Three more runs would be scored, one in the sixth, and two more in the seventh, with Greenhalgh surrendering three-runs in the bottom of the seventh before closing the game out.

The first inning of the second game would continue as the first game, with Brown, Snider, Linn, Trager Hintze and Mitch Stevenson all scored to kick the team to a 5-0 lead. Ferrum would answer with three runs in the bottom of the first. Britt Dalton would weather the storm to record the win, going 4-innings, giving up 7-hits and 7-earned runs. Dalton would get ample run support, with SVU adding three more runs in the second and third innings.

Ferrum would add five more runs in the fifth inning to chase Dalton, and Kody Parkinson held the Panthers. The sixth and seventh innings saw SVU add nine more runs to cose out the game in convincing fashion. Tyler Cox, Barrett Price and Brandon Alexander would score helping the Knights register the most runs thus far of the season.

The sweep for the day gives the Knights a 5-1 record on the season. SVU returns to action Feb. 21 when they host the home opener against University of Maine -Presque Isle. The double-header has a 12:00 pm start time.
