Knights Drop Double-Header To UVA-Wise

BUENA VISTA, Va. The Southern Virginia Baseball team was unable to find winning runs against UVA- Wise, and fell in both games of a double-header 9-8 and 2-0. The Knights fell behind to the visitors early in the first game, before a fifth inning comeback put the Knights in the driver's seat for a win.

Ryan Carpenter walked early in the fifth, and then was brought home to start the scoring for the Knights. Andrew Snider tied the game at 6-apiece with 3-run homerun. Derek Snider came home later in the fifth for the lead.

SVU was unable to hold on to the lead for long as UVA-Wise scored three runs in the top of the sixth. The Knights were not done as they fought back in the bottom of the seventh. Andrew Snider came home again to get the Knights to within one run, at 9-8.

The hosts had the chance to get the winning run as they loaded the bases, but UVA- Wise was able to secure the game one win, with a strike out on the last batter.

The visitors put the Knights in a hole to start the first inning of the second game. Darrell Brown was able to hold them down for the majority of game, and allowed only 2-runs to score, with neither being an earned run. Brown struck out three batters and allowed only three hits all game.

Despite Brown's efforts, SVU could not get their bats going, and fell to the 2-0 loss. With the loss the Knights fall to .500 on the season, at 14-14. SVU looks for a rebound against UVA-Wise when they travel to Wise for the double-header rematch.
