Knights Use Big 5th Inning To Beat UMPI

DANVILLE, Va. A five-run fifth inning led the Southern Virginia Baseball team to an 11-1 victory over Maine- Presque Isle. The game was the opening game for both teams, and was played at Danville due to unplayable conditions on the Knight's home field.

Jake Johnson led the game off for the Knights with a triple, and put SVU on the board after he was batted in by C.J. Andrus. The Knights recorded 15-hits, with Johnson a home-run short of hitting for the cycle.

Darrell Brown pitched 5 and a half strong innings as he recorded 6-strikeouts, with 3-hits and no walks with one run scored early in the second inning.

The deciding fifth inning started with an Andrew Snider single. The Maine-Presque Isle pitcher did little to help the visitors' cause as he hit three SVU batters to advance 3 runs in for the Knights.

SVU is now 1-0 on the season. They will play today against Averett University. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
