BUENA VISTA, Va. Powered by a career day from Andrew Snider, the Southern Virginia Baseball team swept through Hiwassee College in a double header, winning 12-2 an 12-2. In the two games combined Snider went 5-for-5, and four of those hits were home runs. He recorded 7-RBI's and fielded a perfect game with no errors. The offensive fireworks pushed Snider's batting average to .565 for the young season.
SVU started out of the gates with a purpose as they put up 4-runs in the bottom of the second with two home-runs in the mix. The 4-run lead was ore than enough for the hosts, but they continued to add to the total little by little. The Knights were able to force the issue, as they were aggressive on the base path, forcing Hiwassee into 2-errors, and maximized the 10-hits they got throughout the game.
Derek Snider went the five innings for the Knights and had a strong outing. Snider recorded 6-strikeouts, only walking two batters, and gave up only 6-hits. Snider moves to 2-2 on the season after the win, and will have lowered hi ERA, with neither of the two Hiwassee runs earned. Snider made quick work of the visitors going 1-2-3 in the first three innings before giving up a hit in the fourth.
The second game started in much the same way from the first, as SVU was able to put up four runs in the first inning. The Knights were able to tack on runs in every inning of the game except for the fourth inning.
Johnson pitched the second game, and was able to prove almost un-hittable, as he gave up only two hits, striking out eight batters. He also helped his cause in the game as he had 4-RBI's to give the Knights the second victory of the day.
After the sweep of the double-header, SVU is now 6-5 on the season. The Knights will return to action March 6, when they host another double-header against Hiwassee. The first game is scheduled 12:00 pm., at Parry McCluer High School.
