Knights Split With Cougars

DANVILLE, Va. The Knights of Southern Virginia split their double-header competition against the Averett Cougars today at Averett College. In the first game, the Knights pounded out ten hits, producing five runs - but the Cougars were not to be outdone as they scored nine runs on twelve hits to win game one. The offensive standouts in the game were 2B Logan Mann (2-4 with two runs scored), SS Justin Eggers ( 3-4 ) and 3B Tristan French ( 1-3 with two runs scored ). Collecting the loss for the Knights was Robert Garrett. The Knights fall to 6-6 with the loss.

In game 2, the Knights were down in the top of the 7th with a score of 1-2, but came back on hits by Whiting, Mann and Johnson to take the lead 3-2. The Cougars did not go down quietly as they tied the score 3-3 and extra innings were in order. In the ninth inning, the Knights took advantage of three errors by the Cougars to score five runs to take a 8-3 lead. The Cougars fought back again but did not have enough to overcome the Knights with a final score of 8-5. The winning pitcher was Darrell Brown. Mann, Johnson, Woods, and Lewis each collected two hits for the Knights while Johnson, Whiting and Giles scored two runs each. The Knights record improves to 7-6. They will be in action on Saturday at Parry McCluer High School at 12pm.
