Baseball Takes Two From Cobras

BRISTOL, Va. – The Southern Virginia baseball team swept Virginia Intermont in a double-header today, extending their winning streak to four games and to bring their record above .500 for the first time this season.
In the first game, the Knights were down 3-1 until the sixth inning, when they exploded for three runs. In the bottom of the inning, however, the Cobras tied the game with a run of their own. The score stayed knotted at four until the top of the eighth inning as the Knights pushed across a run. In the bottom of the eighth, the Knights defense held strong to close out the Cobras, winning the game 5-4. Tristan French's two RBI's and Brandon Miller's two hits and 2 runs scored, led the way for Southern Virginia. Andy Lewis and TJ Whiting also contributed two hits each. The winning pitcher was Michael Edstrom. The Knights record improved to 5-5 with the win in game one.
The Knights jumped out to an early 2-1 lead after the first inning in game two. From there, they would only allow two more runs in the fourth and fifth innings, while they picked up a run in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth. Final score, Southern Virginia wins 6-3. Their record improves to 6-5 for the season. Leading the way for the Knights was DH Grant Woods as he had two hits, two runs scored and three RBI's. Contributing two hits apiece were SS Justin Eggers, 1B Andy Lewis and 3B Tristan French. The Knights return to action on Feb. 24th at Averett College.
