Southern Virginia University Announces 2021 Home Sports Spectator Policy

BUENA VISTA, Va. — Thanks to our Healthy Campus Plan and our new rapid testing capabilities, we are excited this semester to host a limited number of safe athletic competitions on our campus, however, no visiting spectators will be permitted at our home athletic competitions this semester.

To help protect student-athletes and spectators, we have implemented the following attendance policies:

Indoor Competitions: To minimize the spread of COVID-19, no in-person spectators will be allowed at any indoor competitions. While no spectators are allowed at indoor competitions, we will strive to live-stream as many of these events as possible: athletics.svu.edu/ composite.

Outdoor Competitions: In accordance with the Forward Virginia Plan: Phase 3, we will allow a limited number of in-person spectators at outdoor competitions with the following guidelines:

  • In-person spectators will be limited to the lesser of 30% of maximum occupancy for the respective facility or 250 total patrons
  • Members of our campus community will be permitted on a first-come, first-served basis; no visiting spectators will be permitted at our home athletic competitions this semester
  • All spectators will be required to follow the Four Pillars of Protection at all times
  • Approved seating will be designated; once maximum occupancy is reached, overflow areas with safe distancing may be available in the space surrounding the facility

Please note that these guidelines are subject to change. Additionally, we expect many adjustments to this semester’s athletics schedule and we appreciate your patience.
