BUENA VISTA, Va. – Director of Athletics Jason Lamb today named Neely Pendleton as head coach of Southern Virginia University's Spirit Squad, which includes the cheer and dance teams.

"I'm excited to have Neely direct the Spirit Squad," Lamb commented. "She has proven herself this past season in growing the cheer program, and will do a great job overseeing both programs on a full-time basis."

A graduate of Southern Virginia, Pendleton was a four-year member of the varsity cheer team serving as a co-captain during her sophomore year, and as the squad's head coach during her junior and senior years.

After graduating in 2011, Pendleton accompanied her husband to graduate school at Blacksburg, Va., where she served as the head cheerleading coach at Blacksburg High School and Auburn Middle School from 2013 to 2015. Pendleton returned to Southern Virginia this past year as the head cheer coach.

"I'm confident that Neely will continue to increase the number of athletes participating in cheer and dance and will improve the overall athlete experience at Southern Virginia," said Lamb.
