Senior guard Bryndie Ballam from the women’s basketball team has been selected as the Knight of the Week.
The Chantilly, Virginia native first started playing basketball when she was in the fifth-grade. “My older brother was always in a gym and with that influence, I started gaining interest. In that same year I tried out for an AAU girls basketball team and made it, from there the rest was history,” said Ballam.
Bryndie came to Southern Virginia University after previously attending Utah State University Eastern where she played two years.
“I wanted to be closer to home, but I also wanted to continue playing basketball. I had talked to several people who had mentioned Southern Virginia was a school they attended and had enjoyed. I transferred over and it has been a great fit,” commented Ballam.
Before entering Knight Sports Arena on a game day, you can find Ballam relaxing and having some time to herself enjoying her favorite TV show, “The Office”.
Her inspiration starts with her biggest supporter, her father, Craig. “My dad has always believed in me. He has been a positive influence in my life both inside the game of basketball and in life,” said Ballam.
The team captain is currently in her final year studying family and human development. Upon graduating, she hopes to find a career related to social services or nutrition.
