BUENA VISTA, Va.—The United States Collegiate Athletic Association today announced its 2013 Non-USCAA Sports National All-Academic selections honoring eight Southern Virginia University scholar-athletes.

“These scholar-athletes deserve to be recognized for their academic accomplishments,” said Athletic Director Scott Y. Doxey. “This is a testament to the fact that these individuals are receiving a well-rounded education and are not simply focused on the athletic aspect of the college experience.”

Senior women’s lacrosse scholar-athletes Abigail Baxter (Nicholasville, Ky.) and junior Jackie Barlow (Fruit Heights, Utah) headlined the Southern Virginia selections as Baxter and Barlow earned their fourth and second All-Academic awards respectively. Baxter was named a USCAA All-Academic selection from 2009-11 as a member of the softball team and Barlow earned the honor earlier last fall in women’s soccer.

Baxter and Barlow are joined by teammates sophomores Stephanie Blanchard (St. Louis, Mo.) and Samantha Lefort (Ramstein, Germany),  women’s tennis seniors Cassie Crane (Burley, Idaho) and Courtney McNeil (Medina, N.Y.) and men’s tennis junior Timothy Birch (Sandy, Utah) and sophomore Brian Blocher (Oak Ridge, Tenn.).

Barlow, Baxter, Blanchard and Lefort along with Birch and Blocher are the first All-Academic selections in women’s lacrosse and men’s tennis program history.
