William Lowe is an assistant professor of mathematics at Southern Virginia University and also serves as the faculty athletic representative.
Colonel Lowe joined the faculty in 1995 after serving 28 years in the U.S. Air Force. In the Air Force, he was a pilot, instructor pilot, educator, and commander. He retired as a Command Pilot with over 3000 hours in fighter and trainer aircraft. In his last military assignment he served as Commander of the Air Force ROTC detachment at the Virginia Military Institute.
Col. Lowe has taught mathematics for University of Maryland, Far East Division; University of Maryland, European Division; the U.S. Army and the Virginia Military Institute. He was instrumental in Southern Virginia University's transition from a two-year women's college to a four-year co-educational institution. At Southern Virginia University, he has taught calculus, finite mathematics, statistics, and college algebra. He is also an adjunct instructor in mathematics at Virginia Military Institute. Additionally, Colonel Lowe serves as the Faculty Athletics Representative.
Colonel Lowe is active in service to the community and church, having served on the board of directors of the Lexington Rotary Club and a member of the church council. He is also co-chair of the Rockbridge Christmas Basket Program, which provides food and toys to the less fortunate families in Rockbridge County. Col. Lowe and his wife, Nancy, have four children and two grandchildren.
