Michelle Mahaffey is entering her first year as head volleyball coach at Southern Virginia University.
From 2007-2009, Mahaffey served as an assistant coach for Southern Virginia volleyball as the team went 78-34 over that period, including three straight third-place finishes at the USCAA national tournament.
Mahaffey has a B.S. in pedagogy with a minor in coaching from Brigham Young University where she played four years (1999-2002) on the women’s volleyball team, highlighted by three NCAA tournament appearances.
As a freshman in 1999, Mahaffey helped the Cougars claim a conference championship in the newly formed Mountain West Conference. As a senior in 2002, she was named to the Academic All-Mountain West Conference Team and earned BYU’s prestigious Kimball Memorial Award, which is given to an outstanding male or female who letters at least twice and who has the highest scholarly achievement of those who qualify.
Mahaffey and her husband Chad reside in Buena Vista, Va., with their three children.
