Amanda Hawkes is the athletic trainer for volleyball, women’s cross country, women’s basketball and softball at Southern Virginia University. She is also an adjunct instructor of physical education.
Prior to joining Southern Virginia’s athletic training staff in August 2011, Hawkes served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Brigham Young University from August 2010 to April 2011. During that time, Hawkes supervised and instructed undergraduate athletic training students in addition to her training duties for BYU’s cheer squad, mascots and women’s volleyball team.
After serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Philippines from 2005-2007, Hawkes was a coordinator and lead teacher at the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah where she taught Tagalog to outgoing missionaries from 2008-2010.
Hawkes has a B.S. and M.S. in athletic training from BYU. As an undergraduate, she worked closely with the Cougar's football, men's basketball, baseball, softball and women's tennis teams as well as boy's soccer, boy's and girl's basketball and track and field at Timpview High School.
Hawkes holds multiple athletic certifications, including First Aid, Lifeguard, CPR, AED and EMT-B. She is a certified member of the National Athletic Training Association and is a licensed athletic trainer in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
She resides in Buena Vista, Va.
