Daniel Whitehead is the athletic communications director at Southern Virginia University serving as the primary media contact for the athletic department and the Knights' 14 varsity programs.
He also helps administrate Southern Virginia's athletic department as a member of the university's Athletic Leadership Council.
Before Southern Virginia, Whitehead spent the 2012-13 academic year as an athletics media relations graduate assistant at the University of Wyoming, where he was the primary media contact for the women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country and track and field programs.
While at Wyoming, Whitehead also served as an assistant media contact for the Cowboys' football and men’s and women’s basketball teams, handling in-game statistics while also assisting with postgame player interviews and press conferences. He was also responsible for creating game programs and weekly notes for his assigned sports.
Prior to Wyoming, Whitehead attended graduate school at West Virginia University where he earned a dual Master of Business Administration and Master of Sport Management degree from 2010-12. In addition to his studies at West Virginia, Whitehead also served as a sports information graduate assistant with WVU Sports Communications where he was the primary media contact for the wrestling program as well as the women’s cross country and track and field teams.
Whitehead graduated from Brigham Young University in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in communications with an emphasis in public relations. During his final two years in Provo, Whitehead was a student assistant in the BYU Athletic Communications office where he was the primary media contact for the men’s and women’s golf and cross country teams.
A native of Salt Lake City, Whitehead graduated from Jordan High School in Sandy, Utah, in 2003 and served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Resistencia, Argentina from 2004-06.
Whitehead and his wife, Bethany, reside in Buena Vista with their two sons, Noah and Holden.
